COURSE TITLE City & Guilds IVQ Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Hairdressing

Is this course for you? The Level 2 Diploma provides more practice involving a broad range of skills appropriate to a person who may be working independently within a salon environment.

What do you need to get on the course? You need no experience in hairdressing or the services that are provided in a salon but this course is suitable to junior stylists or assistants already working in a salon wishing to gain qualifications or advance their career. 

How long is the course? 200 learning hours

When would you be attending? This course can be taken on a full time or part time basis

When does the course start? From September 2011 and throughout the year

What is the course about? 

Consult with and maintain effective relationships with clients advise clients on salon products and services and advise clients on after care products.

Shampoo the hair and scalp and condition the hair and scalp at this level without any supervision.

Attend to clients and enquiries, make appointments for salon services and handle payments at this level without direct supervision.

Develop and maintain effective teamwork and relationships and develop and improve personal effectiveness within the job role.

Follow emergency procedures and support health, safety and security at work.

Cut hair using a variety of one length looks, cut hair using a variety of layered looks and cut hair using barbering techniques without direct supervision

Dry and finish hair and to set and dress long hair without direct supervision.

Perm and neutralise hair and are expected to undertake competences at this level without direct supervision.

Is work experience a necessary part of the course? Yes - If you are not currently working in a salon, Salon Educators can arrange this for you.

How will you be assessed? Through practical sessions and then a written examination paper.

What qualifications will you achieve? City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (1122-32)(500/5797/2)

What can this course lead to? Employment as a competent stylist within a professional salon environment and could lead towards Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in Hairdressing (1122-33)(500/5798/4)
